Supper in Santorini
We clambered up the cobbled streets, nodding to Thea along the way.
Strolled through town, ducking and weaving through the growing crowds.
Making it to the Amoudi staircase. Two hundred huge, uneven, cobbled steps down to the sea.
A serious work out, very tough on the knees (another reminder not to bring any heels to Santorini!) but the reward is well worth the effort.
A little bay of pretty restaurants, all perched on the water’s edge.
Here you can have supper and watch the sunset from beneath the red cliffs, as the sea laps at your feet.
Yamas!
We took a table at Katina, based almost entirely on the charming chef.
Cooking up fare fresh from the ocean.
The waiter even blessed us with our one and only photo of the three musketeers!
And then really blessed us with a serious spread!
Saganaki (fried cheese! Oh yes.)
Tarama.
Greek salad.
Tomato fritters, a local specialty and so good with cold tzatziki!
Grilled prawns.
Fried courgette.
And finally the aforementioned tzatziki.
All washed down with jugs of iced local wine.
While watching the sun set against the cliffs.
Our waiter, Dimitri, even brought out blankets once the sun went down.
Which one of us was utterly thrilled about and asked if she could keep hers!
We drank our wine and nibbled away late into the night.
We watched the sky turn from blue to gold to pink to indigo, and looked on as ships with glowing sails slipped home along the horizon.
Eventually bracing ourselves for the climb home.
A killer, but worth it at the top.
Especially when there are gorgeous local chaps there to greet you…
Not our last visit to Amoudi by any means.
More Greek adventures tomorrow!
