Market Day, Provence

If you haven’t been to a market in Provence, then you have yet to experience France at its very best.

And Provencal markets don’t come much better than the Friday’s in Lourmarin.

Side by side, traders from the surrounding hills line up to present their finest goods.

The freshest produce, all grown locally and ripened in the sun.

Rotisserie chickens glistening as they turn, crunchy bread still warm from the oven, heaps of vibrant spices, buckets of olives drenched in their own oil, tables piled high with lavender filling the surrounding air with the most incredible scent.

You can find everything from fresh fish to Persian rugs.

Crystal wands to magic beans.

If the food isn’t enough to entice you, the homeware and fashions will.

The little linen dresses were too much for us to resist!

As were the tasting nibbles offered up in between.

From brilliant lavender to rich ochres, the market is a feast for all senses.

And while it gets busy, it never felt overwhelming.

My dress // Shell sandals // Oversized shades

Ochre pram (gift) // Pram fan (brilliant for hotter days!)

Jewellery // Basket

The baskets alone are worth a trip!

But we really went to town with the little things…

Stocking up on hand smocked dresses for Lily and her friends.

I bough the sweetest little matching dresses for her and Julia’s little girl to wear for Thanksgiving!

Then it was back to nibbling our way around the town.

And shopping for things we absolutely shouldn’t…

Dotted around you’ll find a handful of charming little cafés, happy to have you.

Leaving you caffeinated enough to keep on going!

Just incase you missed some little thing.

In summer you can find the market in Lourmarin every Friday, it’s best to go early before things heat up.

Go hungry!
