Men’s Autumn Style Notes

I know I’ve been neglecting you boys recently.

It hasn’t been deliberate and I have missed you!

I get all sorts of blog requests but the one that crops up time and time again is a desperate request for mens shopping guides.

So, seeing as we’re slipping into a brand new season, the nights are getting longer and the mornings are getting frostier, I thought it was time I did a little Autumnal update.

Three key looks for Autumn and a whole coat rack to choose your snuggly new winter jacket from.

Let’s get started, shall we?

First off you’re going to need a tweed jacket.

A British staple and a classic reborn. Tweed is huge this year.

Find the right one and it’ll last you a lifetime. Dress it up with a tie or chill it down with a knitted jumper.

This first look sits perfectly in between the two.

Tweed jacket – Richard James £475, White Oxford shirt – Crew £55, Jeans – Jay Brand £180, Brogue sneakers – Junya Watanabe £310 £310, Watch – Daniel Wellington £120, Tie – Drake’s £95, Scent- Victor & Rolf £45

Dark jeans and brogue trainers say “Hey I’m so relaxed, I just threw these on!”

The white shirt chimes in with “So fresh and so clean, clean!”

The watch & tie are classic but youthful and the jacket says “Come and sit by the fire with me while I smoke my pipe and read you a story, you sexy little minx.”

Beware of the scent, it may have people nibbling at your ears on public transport. Sadly I can’t spritz it at you from here but I suppose the best way to describe it is lumberjack gingerbread James Bond.

If you don’t fancy investing in the Richard James tweed, you’ll be thrilled to know that *whisper* Marks & Spencers have a beautiful range of jackets which are all £199.

Left, Middle, Right.

If you’re more of a country boy than a city type, you’ll be looking forward to stomping through woods and cuddling your labrador by a roaring fire.

Even if you are a city slicker, nothing screams “I’m so wholesome and manly! Care to join me for a roll in the hay?” like a Barbour and boots.

Collared jumper – ASOS £35, Cords – Crew £65, Waxed jacket – Barbour £200, Chocolate shearling boots – Hunter £295, Hipflast – Amazon £3, Damson gin – B&G £15, Merino & cashmere scarf – Barbour £60

If you’re going anywhere remotely green or muddy this Autumn you’ll want your snuggly cowl neck jumper (which looks much more expensive than it is), your cords, waxed Barbour, Hunters (lined with rich chocolate sheepskin – hello cosy wriggly toes!), your scarf for a pop of colour and your hip-flask filled with Damson Gin.

Heading back to the city is another matter entirely.

Whether you’re heading for cocktails with colleagues or a hot date with a knockout, this next look will have you feeling like the cats pyjamas.

Pocket square – Aspinals £18, Velvet jacket – Marks £99, Slim fit shirt – Thomas Pink £89, Navy trousers – Topman £34, Skull cufflinks – Paul Smith £85, Velvet slippers – Stubbs & Wootton £350, Clip braces – Thomas Pink £49, Scent – Tom Ford Private Collection £135.

Velvet jackets last a lifetime.

You can wear them with jeans, chinos or matching trousers for an alternative tuxedo.

Slippers and a pocket square are the perfect mix of Hugh Hefner and Daniel Craig. The skulls add a little danger and the braces add a little whimsy that can only be seen if you want them to.

Anyone who’s ever seen a Tom Ford ad knows that the man sells one thing, sex. Somehow he seems to have been able to bottle it, too. Don’t ask me how, I’m pretty sure the devil’s involved somewhere down the line. All you need to know is, 60% of the time, it works every time.

Now, regardless of who you are or what you’ll be getting up to this winter, you’ll need a coat.

Choose one from the checkerboard bellow, take the plunge and let the complements roll in.

1. Topman £118, 2. Wooyoungmi £710, 3. Etro £1,330, 4. Canada Goose £600, 5. Sandro £420, 6. Seven Diamonds £280, 7. Spiewak £160, 8. Burberry £919, 9. ASOS £75

That should tide you over for a little while. For more men’s fashion inspiration, see here.

If you like I’ll do another one closer to Christmas with holiday jumpers, party clothes, etc.

And maybe a more casual one…
