Lanes of London, Mayfair

The night before we went away to Switzerland, Phoebe came to stay.

There were two reasons for this;

One: Obviously it’s much more fun to share an Uber to the airport than to go alone.

Two: We could easily convince each other that going out for cocktails was much more important than packing.

With her boyfriend away at training, we decided we’d just have to share mine.

My optimistic chap suggested we get a nice, sisterly photo of us all spruced up in Mayfair.

You know the age old saying, “never work with children or animals?”

They really need to add us to that list.

^ a car drove by with “our song” thumping through the sunroof.

Ok, close enough!

Time for a well earned drink.

Oh hang on, did we get the shoes?!

Both of us in heels is a pretty momentous occasion.

Gorgeous yellow Louboutins for PW & black tie sandals for me.

I have to say I’m quite pleased with mine. The point lengthens your legs and I think they look much more expensive than they really are. Delicious little bargains!

PW: Striped blazer // White playsuit // Pink clutch

Me: White shirt // Aztec skirt // Chanel bag // Silver May necklace

Both: PocketWatch watches

Ok, now enough of the fashion stuff.

It’s time for cocktails!

We started with a pretty good bouquet of them.

We’d never been to Lanes of London before.

They invited us down to sample their sharing menu. It’s a fairly huge & amazingly varied menu of different cuisines and food to all nibble on together.

Green papaya salad with chilli, pork, prawns, peanuts, spicy lime sauce.

Marinated barbequed pork skewers, rice noodle salad, homemade sweet chilli sauce.

Beef brisket sliders, roasted bone marrow, horseradish cream.

These were really delicious! You already know I’m a big fan of bone marrow (have you tried this recipe yet?) and it was a nice touch to go with the burgers.

The pint ‘o’ prawns came swimming in sauce, which might have been over-kill for us… but I’m sure there are others who love it!

Duck hash, fried duck egg, hp sauce. Beautifully presented!

Samosa chat, chickpeas, yoghurt, pomegranate, tamarind, mint chutney.

See what I mean about a broad menu?!

Delicious scotch eggs.

Ribman pulled pork bun.

Delicious pork (as always from Ribman) but a really stale, horrible bun. Still worth ordering if you just discard the bread. Especially as it comes with his signature hot sauce!

We polished the meal off with three puddings.

Trifle.

Huuuuge jammy dodgers.

Chocolate tart.

And tea.

None of the food knocked us off our feet, but it was all pretty good.

The cocktails are great, the staff are very keen and the restaurant is beautiful.

I wouldn’t take anyone there as a date, but get a big group together for drinks and nibbles.

We had an absolute whale of a time! It was the perfect send off.
