It feels like ruddy ages since I reviewed a burger joint!
But my dry spell is well and truly over, I have a cracking little place that you are going to love.
Even this guy’s a fan…
The menu is unashamedly filthy.
And one I could happily take to bed for some bedtime reading.
The Burger Shack has popped up in a pub in a no nonsense pub in Marylebone.
The Royal Oak.
There’s a relaxed atmosphere, great music, cocktails, beers, gorgeous men in suits, but more importantly; you can book!
Bucking the trend for cool popups, new restos and hipster fast food joints; no more queuing for tables or crossing your fingers.
You can save your spot and go with a group.
Although next time I think I’ll book on a Wednesday…
They’re extremely dog friendly, so got a five star review from Custard the second his own tumbler of nibbles arrived.
But let’s get down to the good stuff.
The burgers!
The Hubba hubba.
Free range, pasture fed, chemical free meat (a blend of 35-day aged chuck, brisket, rib cap and bone marrow) grilled to perfection, layered with melting cheese, sharp pickles, crunchy greens, chipotle sauce and sandwiched in a pillowy bun.
A two handed, messy, eye rolling affair.
Skin-on fries topped with slow braised chilli beef and cheddar cheese.
Fried chilli poppers.
The Posh One; all the good stuff in a brioche bun.
The Chicken Shack, a retro basket of fried joy.
Big Apple Hot Dogs (one of the first London street food spots I ever wrote about) supply the best dowgs you could ever ask for. Topped with mustard and sauerkraut, a true classic and a must order.
Everything comes with the house sauces, and you have to promise me you’ll try the hot one.
The music’s great, the whole place has a proper buzz about it, and something about chilling on the sofas with all this food just makes it feel like home.
Time to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in!
^ The face of jealousy!
I’m unspeakably thrilled to have such a fantastically filthy burger spot on this side of town.
Marylebone’s easy for everyone to get to, so no excuses.
Send a note round to the crew immediately, book a table and get together for a meat up!
