Tea at Fortnum & Mason is a British institution.
And of course, as such, is loved by Americans.
There really was nowhere more fitting for Buggy to have her birthday cake, and birthday sandwiches, birthday eclairs, birthday scones… The list goes on.
I (naughtily) arrived late, but bearing gifts so everyone quickly forgot.
B has a long standing love affair with both Paris & London, so my pressies reflected those loves.
Ladurée rose body cream from Paris and Sipsmith Gin from London.
I know she’s a particular fan of G&Ts so now she can smell like roses & think of London when she enjoys them on the deck, in one of her fancy glasses!
The rest of the afternoon went by in a haze of sugary delight.
The knowledgable staff explain what’s on offer & guide you through the endless book of tea choices.
It took all of my ladylike restraint not to just tuck in while he was talking…
Possibly my favourite picture of Harry ever. I might have to have that one framed!
This was a sort of bannoffee, chocolatey, creamy, pastry thing.
I think that’s actually the official name, as it happens.
The petit fours were beautiful & delicious.
But my favourite are always the scones, because I am passionate about clotted cream.
On my side of the table scones merely act as an edible shovel for a tower of cream & blackberry jam.
But when the waiter arrived with a replenished plate of petit fours, S & B could barely contain their excitement!
For those more interested in clothes than cakes, I just can’t hold back the Spring pastels any longer!

In stark contrast to Posh & Becks on the other side of the table!
Once you’ve finished your stack of treats, you’re let loose on the tray of cakes.
Battenburg for Sylvia.
B chose a chocolate monster which arrived with a flurry of singing staff as the pianist belted out Happy Birthday across the room.
My choice, and by far my favourite of the bunch was the raspberry charlotte.
Layers of delicious sponge, sandwiching raspberry cream, topped with fresh berries & pistachios.
A recipe I will have to have a go at recreating! I’ll let you know how I get on.
Happy Birthday Buggy, we loved having you to stay & can’t wait to get you back again.
