Summer Hair & Beauty

Right here’s one just for the girls!

This is a much requested post & it’s been a little while coming, I’m sorry.

I rarely do beauty posts but I did promise a seasonal update so I thought I’d throw together a little summer round up of the stuff that keeps me looking vaguely human & feeling the bee’s knees.

Have you ever felt bee’s knees? I bet they’d be fuzzy.

Kicking off… here’s my face:

Here’s what’s on it:

1. ESPA energising body oil . I slather myself in this gorgeous liquid every morning (just my body, not my face). It was a gift from a beauty PR, I would never have thought to buy it myself… C’mon how energising can oil really be? Very. I’m no morning person, but I put it on listening to mySummer 13 playlist & literally bounce out of the house. I’ve just bought my mum a bottle & can’t recommend it enough.

2. Créme de la Mer gradual tanner . I’ve just started using this as my facial moisturiser. Anti-ageing & gradually gives you a lasting, natural looking tan.

3. Garnier BB cream . I don’t wear foundation as I find it very thick & heavy. This “medium” shade of BB cream gives a great light coverage for an even skin tone while letting freckles shine through for a more natural look.

4. NARS Laguna bronzer . This was given to me by NARS. As you can see from the depleted corners, I can’t get enough of it. It gives a very matt, “Mediterranean” bronzed effect.

5. Benefit Dallas . I’ve used this gem for years . Use the cleverly shaped brush inside to create the illusion of chiseled cheekbones. Make an “O” face with your mouth & swipe the brush into the hollows for definition. You can also brush it down each side of your nose for an instant slimming, very expensive nose job effect!

6. Guerlain Divinora blush #585 . This was stolen from my mum’s makeup draw. I have no idea where she bought it because I only seem to be able to find it on Amazon… and it looks pretty expensive… Sorry mum!

7. Estée Lauder heat wave highlighter . This is the most deliciously shimmery, summery product I’ve ever used. EL sent over the whole Heat Wave range and this is absolutely the hero of them all. Use your fingers to brush over your cheekbones (make that “O” face again) and a straight line right down the middle of your nose. It’ll give you a glorious summer glow without making you look shiny or glittery.

8. Barry M Waterproof Intense Black Eyeliner . I’m prone to weeping. Not hysterically Les Miserables style, but when the wind blows my eyes water. In order to stop myself looking like a bedraggled panda, I use this. Cheapest option is Amazon (I over paid for mine on the high street).

9. Rimmel Modern Blues eyeshadow trio. Lots of people asked how I got the blue eyeliner effect in this pic:

I use a flat brush to apply navy eyeshadow over my eyeliner. The eyeliner helps it stay in place & it softens the harsh black. During the day I only swipe the tops of my eyes, I think smokey eyes are a bit much for day time.

10. Benefit They’re Real mascara . I can’t rave about this product enough. The best mascara I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried a lot !).

11. Perricone MD No Concealer Concealer *Touch wood* I don’t have any spots at the moment because I’ve gotten lots of sun recently. But as soon as one comes out to play I hide the little blighter away with this stuff. Hasta la vista, baby!

After a week of letting my hair run rampant in Cannes, I was in desperate need of a trim. Apparently Massato (the wonderfully serious Japanese born Parisian based hairdresser) saw my pictures and thought the same.

He asked me to come in for an emergency chop.

No-one says no to Massato.

Thankfully I got there just in the nick of time. Things had really gotten out of hand.

He had me stand up, walk, twirl, & talk to get a good handle on my face & hair. Having done my walkin’ talkin’ doll act, I was told to sit down. Quick as a hiccup he whipped out his scissors & got to work.

He cut the whole thing dry while I struggled my way through French Vogue & a great big plate of sushi.

After a shampoo & eye-rollingly good head massage from one of the girls he finished his creation.

And had me inspect his handiwork. Considering I spent most of my childhood leaving hairdressers in tears, I’d say this is progress…

He’s an artist who takes his work very seriously. He jets around the world to his different salons so if you want Massato himself, book well in advance. My cut was a gift, but one on one time is usually fairly expensive. His teams in London, Paris & Tokyo however are always on hand to tame even the unruliest of locks. Website & info here . If you have any summer beauty tips for me please let me know, I’m all ears!
