L’Etranger Fish ‘n’ Bubbles

Last week I organised a dream date.

He’d taken me on a couple spectacular evenings so I figured I should return the favour.

A friend mentioned that L’Etranger was hosting one of their special tasting evenings, I’d never been but had heard great things so snapped up two tickets.

I pulled out my prettiest dress, brushed my hair & got very, very excited!

Then… he canceled.

Work meltdown, he had to bail.

I was left slightly deflated until my gorgeous parter in crime lept up & offered to join me.

Full of beans we skipped (literally, it’s a surprisingly efficient way of getting around) from Notting Hill to Kensington for an evening of champagne & seafood.

Upon arrival we were whisked downstairs where a long table was set amongst the wine cellars. People milled around chattering quietly but excitedly about the treat to come.

As soon as we’d taken our seats the dance of waiters began. Whipping plates away, swapping glasses & popping huge bottles of champagne in the blink of an eye.

We started with Dom Perignon Brut, Magnum 2002 & Baeri Caviar.

I wasn’t the only one snapping pics…

Do you think that’s one for POHTPOF ? I love caviar, but it’s a very rare treat for me… which sort of makes it even more delicious.

PW loves quail eggs a little too much.

Next up was my favourite, the Krug “Grande Cuvée”, Magnum.

Paired with sea bass usuzukuri. Beautifully presented.

PW wore her adorable new sailboat blazer , I went for an asos number. (Plunging neckline totally wasted on my new date!)

Our next course was whole Scottish lobster cooked two ways: grilled with white miso & poached with lemon grass bisque.

With “S” de Salon Blanc de Blancs, Magnum 1999. Beautiful, but nothing on the Krug (in my opinion, but I know very little about wine… I just likes what I likes!).

The little I do know, knows that this is a very special bottle of pudding wine.

Chateau d’Yquem 1924, baby!

Exceptionally delicious & perfect with the Nashi pear tatin and peach sorbet.

Probably one of the best meals I will ever eat & certainly some of the best wine. It might not have been the dream date I had planned, but it was certainly a dream evening with one of my favourite people. This was a special event, L’Etranger organises them every now & then. Keep an eye on the website for the next one, but if this menu was anything to go by then the restaurant upstairs is well worth a trip. It’s expensive, so more of a special occasion spot.
