Last week Henrietta Lily & I popped out for a romantic dinner for two.
She was celebrating a brand new modelling contract, so we had to pull out all the stops for this one.
If you haven’t tried Gilbert Scotts yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!
It’s nestled in one of London’s most impressive buildings at St. Pancras.
The high ceilings & church bells in the bar are simply awe inspiring, but even these pale in comparison to the food.
We started with a few cocktails & their famous smoked butter popcorn.
H plumped for the Dorset crab & I went for the oysters with lemon jam.
H’s duck breast was tender & swimming in a wonderfully rich sauce, while my pollock & soft poached egg was unlike anything I’ve tried before. The fish is cooked in a waterbath & stopped before the white protein starts to develop, meaning it looks like sashimi, but has a texture like butter.
Once broken, the egg yolk oozes over the fish mixing with the sauce & soaks into the crushed potatoes below.
Seriously impressive.
Our romantic table for two!
Pear & walnut ice-cream sandwich with epic salted caramel.
My warm chocolate pot with chocolate cornflakes.
I wonder if I could get away with having this for breakfast? After dinner we were taken downstairs for a tour of the kitchens with head chef, Oliver Wilson.
We bombarded him with questions and quizzed him for cooking tips, which will of course have to remain top secret *taps nose*. After our tour we headed back upstairs for tea & hand rolled truffles.
One of the most decadent evenings I’ve enjoyed in a very long time. I highly recommend giving them a go. If you’re popping in for cocktails be sure to gorge yourself on their buttery popcorn & if you’re going for dinner… wear loose trousers! Visit the website for booking details, directions etc. .
