This post combines a few of my favourite things.

Stripes. Tea. Crisp shirt dresses. Baskets. Cake.

If I’m not careful I may burst into Julie Andrews song any moment now!

But I’ll refrain, for your sake.

The ultimate striped shirt dress

(from a somewhat surprising place! I’ve been asked about it every time I’ve worn it and no-one ever believes me when I say where it’s from. The sign of a true find.)

Just the ticket for this in-between weather.

Very topsy turvy, very Alice in Wonderland.

Which is rather fitting, as Wonderland is where I’m taking you for tea.

Well, the Wonderland themed terrace at The Sanderson in fact.

But it is pretty wonderful.

Marble tables, a babbling brook, blossoming trees, singing sugar pots and menus hidden in books.

Lewis Carroll would be proud.

You start by choosing your tea, served in little “Drink Me” bottles.

Then the main event arrives with a flourish.

Layers of treats, both sweet and savoury.

Quickly followed by a couple of flower pots.

“Curiouser and curiouser!”

I won’t tell you what they really are, it’d ruin the surprise.

What I will say that if tea, cake and whimsy are your cup of tea, you’re going to love this place!

Take mum, take a group of friends, take a date (one chap got down on one knee and proposed while we were there, much to the utter delight of his now fiancé and the rest of the restaurant!)

Book in advance and remember…

“You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
