London Fashion Week Beginnings

I have never really done Fashion Week. I mean I’ve been to a few shows and lots of the after parties, but I’ve generally avoided it. This time, seeing as I was in town, footloose and fancy free, I decided to give it a go. I pulled on my leather pants, my strappy sandals, I wore my coat as a cape and off I set!

Right into the madness of Somerset House. (A very different Somerset to the one I usually frequent!)

The place practically buzzes with excitement, especially on day one. Every snapper with a camera is out looking for a little action. The fashionistas are dolled up and ready to wurk it!

I rocked up in black n wine.

It’s quite intimidating walking into a wall of photographers who all shout for you to look in different directions, fighting each other for the shot. I must have looked like a rabbit in the headlights!

But it didn’t take long to relax into it and just let them crack on with it.

I actually met some lovely people in the process.

Being snapped is ok, but my real joy comes from taking pictures of others. Fashion week is a total dream for this. There’s no awkwardness or need to stand on ceremony. People get dressed up and mill around the square to be looked at, to be shot and to be complimented. It’s a people watcher’s dream!

Having had my people watching fun, I head backstage to check out the prep for Bora Aksu.

There’s not much I enjoy more than peeking behind a secret curtain! I sipped and chatted in the hurricane of activity and hairspray as everyone got ready for show time.

The hairstyles and makeup were designed to look like ballerinas who’d just come off stage. Smudged perfection.

I couldn’t resist getting up close and personal with the collection. It was pretty much made for me!

Blues, whites, light chiffons and heavy cottons.

I didn’t have to wait long to see it all brought to life on the runway. Lights flashed, music thumped and the ballerinas took to their stage.

After the show I rushed out to get photos of the guests as they left. A flurry of excitement, styles and looks, all condensed into one corridor.

The most fun I had was meeting readers. I got to meet so many of you and really chat properly between shows.

I wore my Silver May jewellery as a good luck charm, and received never ending compliments on my Oak necklace.

I noticed a girl watching me and scribbling away.

I curiously introduced myself and found that she was drawing me. Her (rather fabulous) job is to illustrate the shows. I watched on, utterly mesmerised.

There’s the most spectacular smorgasbord of fashion on show. From the weird to the wonderful and everything in-between.

As usual I took far too many pictures, so I’ll share more with you tomorrow! All in all, not a bad first morning of paddling in the LFW madness.
