Copenhagen

Copenhagen is just a hop skip & a jump away from Helsingborg. Valentina informed me it that it was full of food markets, pretty shops & rose gardens. I was sold (obviously). So we hopped, skipped & jumped over to Denmark for an afternoon. First stop, my playground of choice; Torvehallern Market . An exquisitely designed, covered marketplace bursting with edible & beautiful goodies.

There are two sides to Torvehallern.

One for shoppin’ & one for eatin’. Funilly enough the eating one was my favourite.

After perusing all of the stalls, we plumped for pizza.

Or what actually turned out to be a salad wrapped in a big slice of pizza.

Having demolished our fair share of Italy’s exports, we wandered through the streets in search of Tivoli Gardens.

This is Valentina’s playground. She used to come here as a little girl & showed me around with great excitement!

Which of course included a stop off at her favourite ride.

You climb into big treasure chests & are taken on a trip through old fairy tales… acted out by robots, naturally.

Next up, a spot of tea in the gardens as the marching band serenaded us.

Don’t these flowers look like something from Dr Seuss? I wanted to climb into them and say “I do not like green eggs & ham”, but thought better of it & went for a picture of a honey bee instead.

Earlier in the week I asked Valentina what her favourite restaurant is (I wanted to take her somewhere to thank her for having me to stay) and she replied “Ohhh Sticks n Sushi for sure! It’s our answer to Nobu.” (who doesn’t love a date with expensive taste?!) so we headed to the top of Tivoli hotel for cocktails, sticks & sushi.

And swings.

Taste test…

This face means it’s a winner!

Salted edemame with spicy dressing.

Tuna, salmon & shrimp nigiri, inside out california rolls, salmon carpaccio in lime marinade, duck rolls with doma dressing, crispy prawn tempura roll with caviar.

Chicken tebasaki sticks, goat cheese wrapped in serrano ham, spicy tuna sticks, scallops & wonderfully tender steak topped with fois gras.

In our excitement we hugely over ordered so took what we couldn’t finish home. A seriously good midnight snack in front of a seriously good movie ( Zero Dark Thirty ). Copenhagen is a beautiful city, I wish I could have seen more of it! It’s going firmly on my list of places to visit properly.
