I can’t tell you how happy the sunshine makes me. I know it sounds silly but I think I’m a totally different person in Summer.
When the sunshines in London everyone just seems to breath a sigh of relief, they stand a little taller, walk with a little more bounce in their step & are more generous with their smiles.
It also means it’s finally warm enough to get Gypsy out. Remember the bike I bought last summer? She’s back & oh how I missed her! Phoebe grabbed a Boris Bike & we rode our way through Notting Hill, down through Kensington, around Chelsea & down to “the bar” to meet the girls.

Most groups of friends have their own version of “the bar”.
That one place that you know, it’s familiar, you get on with the staff & the drinks are right up your street.
(I’m resisting bursting into the Cheers theme tune here… how does it go again? Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came! Sorry, did I get that stuck in your head?)
Our current haunt of choice is Eclipse on Walton St.
I say haunt because the poor staff literally cannot get rid of us, we’re there constantly & it’s all down to these badboys…
The watermelon martinis. I blogged about them last year, and yes I’m still obsessed. These pink kiwi things are pretty good too…
And the lychee martinis… oh baby they’re good!
These are new but I think they’re the bomb diggity. It’s called The Divine Smoke.
Gin is infused with cardamon & cherrywood smoke & mixed with lemon, apple, elderflower & a little grapefruit.
Deliciously rich, but sharp & delicate at the same time.
We meet, we chat about work & boys & friends.
And the pros & cons of getting facelifts…
Naturally. More cocktails arrive, this is the Walton Street special & it’s excellent for Belgian Dipping.
Possibly the best thing about being here is that you can get food delivered. They’ll bring you sushi from Itsu, a pizza, whatever you like. This time we plumped for the nudja & burratta monstrosity.
He may not win any beauty contests, but he’s bloody delicious so we’ll let it slide. If you don’t have a bar of your own yet or you quite like the look of ours, come on down! There are two, one in Chelsea & one in South Ken . I’ve sweet talked the bartenders into giving you a little reader perk. Until the 12th of May, pop in, say “I’m with The Londoner” when you order your cocktail & they’ll give you a Crackbaby (the most sinfully delicious, totally addictive baby cocktail you’ll ever try!) on me. They can’t do it after 10pm, because they’re too busy so go early. *No I’m not getting paid for this, I just thought it would be fun! See you at the bar!
