When mum comes up to London I like to spoil her rotten.
She’s spent years & years looking after us kids. Now we’re finally old enough to start paying her back.
Last week she threw off her wellies, slipped into her party shoes & headed up to the big smoke.
After a day of shopping, gallery hopping & gossiping I thought a spot of tea was in order.
So we went to the new Wellesley hotel in Knightsbridge where they have over 20 types of the stuff to choose from.
I went for Winston Churchill’s favourite blend, as it happens.
And a few delicious things to go with it…
Have you ever seen chocolate chip scones before?
I hadn’t. Nor had I considered the concept of chocolate cream on chocolate chip scones…
Just . so . good.
Having gorged ourselves on too teeny cakes & tiny sandwiches I figured mum might like a drop of bubbly. Bubbly doesn’t get much better than Dom Pérignon & it just so happens they were having a a party. A get together to celebrate their (pretty spectacular) Rosé 2002 vintage.
Stephen Webster was even commissioned to create a suite of jewels for the occasion. They took centre stage in the claws of crows, right in the middle of the party.
Earrings & a ring dripping in diamonds.
Personally though I’m more of a fan of the honey bee mum made…
But maybe I’m biased.
Before popping open the 2002 vintage we were treated to a few bottles of the sexy little 2000 number
and a few more canapés
Before the remarkably talented Jessie Ware took to the stage to serenade us all.
and the party descended into a flurry of excited Tweets & Instagrams.
Finally
the guest of honour arrived.
Dom are calling it their best ever Rosé & I have to agree, we were blown away! And it went perfectly with the endless supply of chocolate stuffed puddings.
After a long day a chocolate stuffed pair of girls headed home. I made tea & sat at the end of mum’s bed chatting late into the night. I don’t know when it happened… but at some point over the last few years mum changed from mum into my best friend. I never, ever want to stop spoiling her.
