Beach Day, Charleston

Charleston is a stone’s throw away from the sea.

And a mere hop skip and a jump from the little seaside resort of Sulivan’s Island.

We skipped the skipping and took bikes instead.

Having loaded up our baskets with towels, snacks and sunscreen, we set off in search of the beach.

Excitement levels were running high!

As we freewheeled through avenues of waving trees, a warm breeze on our backs.

Laughing as we went, with only the occasional death defying wobble.

All the way out to Sullivan’s Island Beach.

Lined with shiplapped houses, gazing out to sea.

A fresh breeze and choppy sea was too much to resist, we slipped into swimmers and raced to the water’s edge.

Splashing about in the freezing water (not that that matters to a Brit!) and stretching out on a picnic blanket.

We spotted a few of Thomas & Julia’s friends along the bay and joined them for drinks and a spot of frisbee (which is not my sport, I very nearly beheaded a small passing boy), I think I’ll stick to cocktails in future.

And for cocktails on Sullivan’s Island you go to The Obstinate Daughter.

Just be sure to try the Geechie Frites – polenta fries to you & me.

For lunch we strolled over to Poé’s Tavern.

For a light, healthy lunch in the sun.

There’s guacamolé, so a little healthy.

Sort of.

Followed by every sort of fish taco imaginable!

My personal favourites being the shrimp (above) and the tuna (below)….

We sat there for some time, sipping on lemonade and shooting the breeze.

Before riding back along the beach, keen for one last dip in the sea.

Even if it was just our toes this time!

If you’re a bird I’m a bird!

The perfect start to what I can feel is going to be a summer to remember!
