Blown Away by Suffolk

We woke pretty early in our pretty pink house.

While dad lit the fire, mum put the kettle on and the boys and I went out to get the papers.

After a hearty breakfast beside the fire in the kitchen we set off on another adventure.

Pretty little towns flying past, in all the shades of a pastel rainbow.

Nothing blows the Sunday cobwebs away quite like a visit to the British seaside.

british-staycation-4

Complete with classic British seaside weather!

british-staycation-5

With a firm footing and a tight grip on the rails, we braved the edge and waited for a salty slap from Mother Nature…

british-staycation-6

Which she happily provided!

We strolled along the front as the storm raged out at sea, turning the sky a bruised black and blue and peppering us with spray.

Down to the somewhat more civilised beach and its bank of painted beach huts.

You haven’t truly enjoyed the British seaside until you’ve played hut house hunting.

Mum chose hers based on the colour…

british-staycation-14

…I chose mine for its name.

Teddy ^ pretty much the happiest dog in the world! Amazing to think if I hadn’t spotted him on Instagram this time last year he wouldn’t be lighting up our lives now!

Maybe you have a furry shaped hole in your life?

Pay Wild at Heart a visit and write them a little note saying what sort of dog you’re looking for and they’ll do the rest.

Snug in our wellies we stomped through the churning surf, collecting shells and pebbles with holes right through their middles.

british-staycation-18

british-staycation-19

Someone thought a swim was a good idea (despite regretting the same decision yesterday)…

british-staycation-20

…so we took our wet little sausage back to the car to dry off, while we drove down to the harbour.

british-staycation-22

Which may not look like the most likely place for lunch, but you’ve been reading this blog long enough to know that’s where you find the very best lunches!

british-staycation-23

Right here in a disheveled shack you’ll find the best seafood in town (thanks to Laura on Twitter for the rec!), The Sole Bay Fish Co.

british-staycation-24

A cosy shelter from the wind, rain and spray (say wind, rain and spray 10 times fast), we ordered tea and cider to warm our bones.

british-staycation-25

british-staycation-26

Snuggling together like penguins to warm up again.

british-staycation-27

While smiling chatty staff brought out catch after catch.

british-staycation-28

Beautifully plump, salty oysters.

british-staycation-29

Followed promptly by fish and chips, lobster, crevetttes and a seafood platter of dreams.

british-staycation-31

Steamingly hot, fresh fish in the lightest, crispest batter we’ve ever tasted.

With a mug of hot fluffy chips.

british-staycation-33

A gleaming silver platter topped with all sorts of local specialities.

Prawns, mussels, cockles, winkles, grab, smoked salmon, sprats, the works.

british-staycation-34

Expert squeezing from Silver May in her Rutilated Quartz Sparkler.

We stayed nibbling, chatting and laughing late into the afternoon. Warmed up, utterly stuffed with sore cheeks from smiling, we finally settled up and headed off.

Back to the gently glowing Moat Cottage for a snooze beside the fire.

british-staycation-36

Before begrudgingly stuffing our belongings into a bag, locking up and bidding adieu to our weekend sanctuary.

BMW i8 (matte black UK only)

Driving through the dark drizzly night, back to London.

Fully refreshed from our little staycation beside the sea.
