Spas & Sharks, Maldives

I think it’s safe to say I’ve woken up to worse views…

Huvafen Fushi Maldives -1

Being able to stumble from bed to ocean is pretty much all I’ve ever dreamed of!

Huvafen Fushi Maldives -2

Surrounded by blues, we slipped into robes and headed off to the spa.

Huvafen Fushi Maldives -3

We hot-footed it across the wooden pier.

The spa area is spread out and floats over the sea. There are all sorts of yoga studios, saunas, steam rooms and zen hangouts dotted around.

But downstairs is where things get really cool!

Huvafen Fushi Maldives -6

You descend into an eerie blue glow and come out underwater.

We took up our places on the beds and wiggled ourselves into comfort.

The masseuses slipped mirrors onto the floor beneath us, so we could watch the fish swim throughout the massages.

We watched dreamily as fish danced around the reef and came to watch through the window. Scented oils ran like streams and rivers over our backs. The talented girls got to work, smoothing, rubbing, and pummelling our stresses away.

Gentle music played, mixing hypnotically with the ocean waves.

Huvafen Fushi Maldives -9

Once they were done, we moved into a little snug for tea.

Where we hugely enjoyed sitting in our reverse fish bowl!

The rest of the morning was spent playing in the shallows and baking on the beach.

We spent the majority of the remaining afternoon underwater.

Snorkelling from our bedroom!

It’s rather reassuring snorkelling in the Maldives. We teamed up with a team of Marine Biologists (who hang out at the dive centre every day), who assured us that there was nothing in the surrounding sea that had any interest in eating us.

So, if you suffer from a shark phobia, this is the place to get over it!

I can safely say that Huvafen Fushi is the most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed.

If you’re honeymoon planning, it deserves a look. Keep it in mind (even if *ahem* you’re not actually engaged! It doesn’t hurt to be prepared, right?!)
