Glastonbury Snippets (Part 1)

This weekend I went to Glastonbury Festival.

For those who don’t know, Glasto is one of the world’s biggest and best loved music festivals.

It was started the day after Jimi Hendrix died, in 1970. Back then tickets cost £1 and came with free milk (it’s hosted on a dairy farm in Somerset).

1,500(ish) people attended.

It’s grown a bit since then.

This year 200,000 people flooded onto the land to enjoy some of the biggest acts in the world.

It’s a very special place. I first went on my daddy’s shoulders when I was 3 years old, and I haven’t missed many since!

I was so excited to share the experience with you. I wanted to take you everywhere and show you everything!

But as you’ll know if you follow me on Instagram, after three long days in the mud, the rain and the crowds… my beloved camera was swallowed up. Gone forever it would seem, along with all my photos.

I managed to upload a few iPhone snaps (before that disappeared too!)

Starting with a few cheeky Brothers ciders.

If you haven’t tried Brothers flavoured ciders, make it your mission this weekend. As far as I’m concerned, they’re the taste of Glastonbury and the main bar you want to hang out at (which we did rather a lot!)

A little tent selfie!

One helluva bite to eat!

[iframe allowtransparency=”true” frameborder=”0″ height=”710″ scrolling=”no” src=”//instagram.com/p/pv4iaeydFl/embed/” width=”612″]

^ Wearing an ASOS dress (with a cracking open back!), Tory Burch booties (half price), old yellow mac and Jiya bracelets.

The occasional break in rain for dazzling, warm sunshine.

Flying high at Rudimental!

^ In Isabel Marant and blinding Hunters!

I had SO many amazing photos to share with you… but I’ve come to terms with the fact I’ll never get to. So we took LOTS on the final day to make up for it!

^ Tickling a Greenpeace polar bear’s chin.

Wearing a little sunshine in the mhuuud.

Black Hunters // Marc Jacobs bag

JC sunnies // Jiya colourful bracelets // Goodnight Macaroon nail bracelets

After lunch and a smattering of little bands, we headed to Dolly Parton on The Pyramid Stage.

Which I don’t think we could possibly have been any more excited about!

[iframe frameborder=”0″ height=”120px” scrolling=”no” src=”http://currentlyobsessed.me/api/v1/get_widget?wid=29&blog=The%2BLondoner&product_ids=n_11110354,n_11110310,n_11110302,n_9901287,n_11110450,n_11110346,n_9252120,n_10031950,798c0fe785acdbf873bc98056d2dbd9a&rows=1&cols=5&brand=1&price=0&hover=1″ width=”600px”]

Oh, I don’t think I mentioned that I’m wearing one of Mum’s designs, her Constellation necklace.

The crowd was as big as I’ve ever seen. People crammed forwards and heaved in the excitement.

When Dolly finally took to the stage the place went wild!

She belted out everyone’s favourites and we gleefully sang (howled) along too.

Being part of a crowd this size is an amazing experience.

Everyone buzzes with happy, excited energy. You all move as one; swaying, clapping, cheering.

She was amazing.

One of the best live acts we saw all weekend.

It could have had something to do with knowing every word and being there with most of my favourite people… but it could also just be that she’s one hell of a performer who deserves every success she’s enjoyed.

After the show we made a beeline for The Park Stage, making a few friends along the way.

Here we caught Yoko Ono’s set. Watched over by a spellbound crowd.

Later we headed into the hospitality garden for buckets of cheesy chips and a few icy mojitos.

I dragged everyone to The Black Keys, who they all hated and I adored!

Oh well, you can’t win ’em all!

Soon after we dipped and weaved our way back through the crowds to our bar.

Where we ran into PJ, which PW was pretty excited about… clearly!

In payback for The Black Keys, the others dragged me to Ellie Goulding.

Which we watched and danced along to in the setting sun.

But this post is waaaaay too long already, so I’ll tell you the rest next time!

Have you seen these?

  • Wow looks like you had an amazing time – I didn’t realise Glasto was quite so colourful- I’ve only ever been to Reading festival and V before!

Very sad to hear you lost your camera but I was thinking, some of your readers must have been there too, so you could maybe ask everyone to submit their photos for you to write around? It might be a really nice way for everyone to get involved/share their experiences =) Just an idea for if you haven’t managed to salvage enough pics!

I’m so precious about my photos that whenever I’m travelling somewhere with a lot of pick pockets I put my memory card down my bra/socks because, as you say, it’s the photos that are the most valuable.

How can anyone hate the black keys?! Looks like you had a great time, but why the three pairs of welly’s?! I mean they look great but that trek from car to campsite is a killer and I can never bring myself to bring anything other than the basics! Kudos to you though, that’s why I never look as good as this on the final day of a festival, definitely much more bedraggled! Xx

Hi, I asked a question a few posts back about whether you disclose companies that comp you but I didn’t get an answer. Again sorry if you find this question rude but I’m curious – were you sponsored by brothers flavored cider in order to mention them in a blog post?

  • So sad about your camera! It may still turn up, fingers crossed. Glasto is not for me but looks like you had a fantastic time. I was keeping updated with Pheobe’s instagram all weekend πŸ™‚ Little London Girl x http://www.littlelondongirl.co.uk

  • My 80 year old neighbours met at Glasto years ago and you can always hear them blaring the tv when it’s on every year πŸ™‚ Must have been so incredible to be there!

  • What a bummer about the camera and phone! I’m sure a million people have mentioned it, but just in case…if it was an iPhone and you have Find My iPhone installed then you can track it from another device. If not, get an iPhone for your next one and install the app!!

Glastonbury doesn’t really sound like my thang, but it looks like y’all had a lovely time. I was totally shocked when I heard that Dolly was the headliner! I thought it was an odd but interesting choice. Glad to see that so many different genres of music can unite.

Hi Rosie. If you’re looking for new camera recommendations, I just bought the new version of your Sony RX100, the M3. I absolutely love it. It has a viewfinder now and the screen rotates 180 degrees for great selfies. PS. I like the Black Keys too. And since you’re into festivals, you should come back to TX for SXSW! You would love Austin – amazing food and a very photogenic city.

I was so sorry to hear about your camera-loss situation! πŸ™ I went to Glasto a few years ago and asked someone to take a photo for us and they accidentally dropped it in the mud, but luckily I still managed to get a few more shots with it before it died completely! • I’m so sorry to hear that you lost both your camera and phone, and that fab mac to boot! Of course they can be replaced but it’s the photos which are the really upsetting part!

I was at Glastonbury working as a first aider, so I missed a few bits but not too much – I know it’s not the same as using your own but you are more than welcome to use any of my photos! (Slight trial and error with the settings as it’s a new camera but I’ve got a good few hundred, alot of which are scenic and of bands et al).
