I apologise in advance for the picture quality of this post.
I forgot my camera and only had my phone, but there was no way I wasn't going to show you this place.
I'm always being asked for my favourite "hidden gem" in London, and this one comes pretty high on the list.
A tiny little stall at the unfashionable end of Portobello. They serve up the freshest fish, with punchy herbs & flavours, piled high on great big platters.
The best bit?
It's cheap as hell.
A whole seabass for a fiver I hear you cry?! Yessir.
This place is a winner, every time.
I went for seabass, prawns, rice, chips, salad, homemade flat bread and their signature tomato sauce.
M had tuna steak, calamari & all the trimmings.
We left groaningly full and only paid a tenner each for the pleasure.
They're open every day except for Thursdays and Sundays.
You'll find them on Golborne road, just opposite Pizza East.
Don't leave it too late or they'll have sold out by the time you get there.
If you can manage pudding, walk down to Portobello market for pastries.
Wrap up warm and don't be shellfish, take a friend!

I'm usually into free choice when it comes to this sort of thing, but I think I speak for most of society when I say that you and this M character must procreate.. such a waste of harmonious genes not to!
ReplyDeleteha! Thanks anon, we'll think about it ;)
DeleteIf so - make sure you use your proper camera and not your phone.
DeleteThe pastries look just as yummy as M... I am a vegetarian but the fish still looks delicious. This looks like the perfect place for my dad: he always is looking for authentic little restaurants like this one and keeps telling me how he wants to be exactly like the guy in the picture (not specifically this one, he has never seen this post :))
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and value your opinions very much, so I have a question I would like to ask you:
I am 16 years old and I live thousands of miles away from my mom and siblings (I am at university and my parents are divorced). I miss them so much and feel sad all of the time! Do you have any suggestions how I could overcome my missing them so much? I think this would interest some of your other reasons as well, as many of us are away from their family now.
Thanks so much! You are an amazing role model!
Hey Anon,
DeleteI'm sorry, I know it can be difficult being away from loved ones.
The best I can suggest is that you Skype lots and try and keep busy.
It'll get easier honey xx
I also found that finding many friends that you can feel comfortable confiding in does wonders. Friends who are able to bring you out of funks are amazing. Whether they distract you by taking you to fun places or just sit, and listen, and laugh, and cry with you. They can become your family away from home. Also, know that you are not alone!
DeleteEverything looks so yummy!
ReplyDeleteSeems sooo delicius!! I love fish!!!

ReplyDeleteOh my god, I´m so there when I finally recover from my cold. Good fish in London? I do have to try it. Thanks a lot for sharing this. I am always on the hunt for hidden gems. Do you know the Map Studio Cafe in Kentish Town?
ReplyDeleteSomething strange happened when I signed in with my Wordpress name. I only said that I´m so going there soon. Thanks a lot for posting this. I am forever looking for hidden gems in London. Do you know the Map Studio Cafe in Kentish Town? It is a delightful little place for home cooking.
ReplyDeleteWhat am I doing in Scotland? I want to be in London, eating this. Looks so good!
ReplyDeleteDo you and M just sit with each other talk about how beautiful you are?
ReplyDeleteJust bat perfect blue eyes at each other and chat about hair products?
They bat their eyelashes, not their eyes, that's be weird ;)
DeleteIn my mind he looks like Rupert Campbell-Black.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks delicious Rose! Seabass and prawns is definitely my kind of thing! We need places like this in Nottingham!

ReplyDeleteAlways love your recommendations!
ReplyDeleteRose,
ReplyDeleteCould you possibly do a post about visiting the city/ where to go if you've already done the touristy things. I did study abroad in London and am going back after law school graduation, and I'd like to see the city from different angles! This place looks like exactly the kind of thing!
"Street fish"? How do you know its fresh Rosie (at the risk of sounding cynical)
ReplyDeleteYour man is divine.. But the truth is he's luckier to have such a beautiful classy girl! Eleanor xx
ReplyDeleteAw Rose, this place looks great, thank u for the rec. So nice to see u with a lovely new bloke, I hope u are happy as u so deserve it.
ReplyDeleteJaney x
The unfashionable end of Portobello? Are you crazy? This is where it all goes down, we just don't tell the tourists . X

Wow it looks AMAZING!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Rose, I recently moved out of London to go to university and every time I read your blog, I just want to run back home! I'm in Southampton now and it's nowhere near as cool as London. Or weird. I adore weirdness esp on the underground on a Saturday morning.
ReplyDeletePS. I also happen to adore your blog!
I like how you apologise for the quality of picture, and they are actually wonderful! Brighton could do with a place just like this- for a seaside city, you'd be amazed at how fish and good places to eat it are just not available. Unless you want to pay loads. xx
ReplyDeleteI really do not understand all the comments to who M is alike. It is so simple... so charming and exactly the same looking like young Robert Redford.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for you guys Anna
I have always been amused to be here....simply an awesome post..
ReplyDeleteDon't be shellfish! Ha that cracks me up!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love all your posts, Rosie! Can't wait to visit London again next summer. Will earmark lots of your recs.:)
ReplyDeleteHi there! Love your blog! Question - is M a new love interest? He's been featured quite heavily lately!
ReplyDeleteRose, it all looks so scrummy! Do you know what hours they are open?
ReplyDeleteThis place looks amazing! I've bookmarked your blog post and will definitely be paying it a visit soon! x
