There's something so deliciously naughty about running around a museum after hours.
Alix of Bohemia & I were very kindly invited to a party at The V&A to celebrate its new ball gown collection.
An evening of champagne & dancing surrounded by creations from the worlds biggest designers and gowns dating back to the 50s.
I wore a vintage dress from my favourite little shop in Somerset, Light Green and turquoise shoes from Zara.
Alix wore one of her own fabulous creations. (You can order her designs through her blog here.)
I found my Prince Charming at the ball, but I have to say he was a little stoney...
Alix also found hers...
Princess Diana's incredible pearl number.

We stayed until the stars came out and then took our dresses dancing.
The new exhibit really is incredible and we couldn't help drawing comparisons with the Savage Beauty exhibit at The Met in New York(which is one of the first things I ever blogged about!).
The V&A has always been my favourite museum, it just seems to have more soul than its lofty companions.
I highly recommend a trip, even if you're not into dresses there's so much more to see.
The event we attended was organised by Mastercard who organise "Priceless" events in London all the time, so if you fancy skipping along to the next one, you can sign up here.
My ball gown is hanging on the back of my door looking at me, whispering for me to put it on. So if you'll excuse me, I'm off to do a little more twirling!

GORGEOUS dress - you can always borrow some jewellery...
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! x
DeleteCinderella!! xx
ReplyDeleteSunshineDays
you both look gorgeous, and I love your dress, epecially with splash of colour from the shoes. The petticoat was a nice touch too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sadie! x
Deleteumm your shoes don't match with your dress at all. i really like reading your blog, but style is not your thing!!!
ReplyDeletehahaha thanks! I'll try not to take it too personally.
DeleteI was just coming to comment on how FABULOUS those shoes look with the dress and saw this.
DeleteI think sooommeeoonnee shops at Primark and is feeling a little jealous. Ignore them hunnay, you are perfection & the shoes are a very modern twist.
Haters gunna hate!
Potatoes gonna potate!
DeleteI was just coming back to see if my link worked above (and it does!)and saw this. Why bother? Style is Roses thing through and through, or else why would I (and plenty others) always want to buy what she is wearing?!?! xx
DeleteI don't like the shoes either, but I find it great that you have your own sense of style and like to do experiments and just dress the way you prefer it:) I mean one can give some critique which is not bad at all,but it should be constructive and not offensive :)...Although I also know people who say that "constructive critique" or "constructive criticism" as such do not exist - apparently there are only different opinions and tastes. My professors of political science or any professor working in social sciences would prove this person wrong, but never mind ;)...Sorry for talking so much, but I am a new follower and I really like your blog and your witty posts :) I even like more that you don't take this comment above personally, but you just laugh at it.You seem to deal with it in a very confident way and just leave it aside instead of starting to defend yourself or starting an exhausting discussion which steals your time and nerves. This is the way a confident and intelligent blogger should deal with it :)...Btw I also ADORE your hair!Do you have recommendations on haircare, styling, etc? xoxo
DeleteI am not the first poster, but I am responding to the second anonymous poster (the one who claimed that any critique must be envy-based): I find your comment very immature! I don't know how old you are, but the Primark comparison is just inappropriate, and reminds me of 14-year-old girls bickering in the school corridors. Adults accept critique the way the blog owner does - with confidence and grace!
DeleteI happen to love the dress, and the petticoat, and I even like the shoes, but I am not keen on the combination of the shoes with the rest of the outfit. I don't care for the colour combination, and I find the shoes too loud and heavy for that lovely and light (colour and fabric) dress. On that note, I also think that her friend's dress is too long. They are both very attractive women, and blessed with fabulous figures, but hemlines should not drag on the floor. It's a very unfortunate, undoubtedly Hollywood-inspired trend, and indicates improper fit.
I am not overly fond of platforms -- perhaps partly because everybody wears them right now, and I don't like to be predictable, but also, because I just don't really like the look. Having said that, these are actually one of the nicer pairs of platform shoes I have seen, but they remind me too much of the 1940s while the dress is entirely 1950s. Personally, I would have paired this dress with a strappy black nubuk sandal, a matching black evening clutch bag, an updo and 1950s style earrings.
Having said my piece, I'd like to congratulate the Londoner for being a stylish, confident and confident woman who seems to enjoy her femininity. That's a rarity today, and will set you apart from any crowd!

DeleteHeyy rose, great post! your dress is breathtaking, especially with those color-striking shoes. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteI have a question, I'm going to london in a month or so and I need tips for shopping. Ive been going to london every now and then and im sick of oxford circus and westfield. I need wintery clothes & boots since I'm going to be living in scotland.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for your time
What sort of style do you usually buy? What are your favourite shops? x
DeleteI'm thinking kneehigh boots and my style is very free, skinny jeans, loose tops, dresses. I'd go with pretty much anything. my favorite shops are Zara, top shop & forever 21. Designer wise, I like marc jacobs, deisel, SOMETIMES alexander mcqueen mm... i dont know what else to tell you. I like things that are edgy and girly i guess. Similar to your style, in some ways.
Deletehaha, sorry for the long post.
What do you think?
You are so gorgeous ;)
ReplyDeleteOh thankyou honey! DITTO! x
DeleteYou look beautiful and like my favourite Disney Princess Belle from Beauty and Beast. Also please, please do a hair tutorial soon, every time I visit your blog I get major hair envy and you'd make my hair's life if you showed us how to get those bouncy locks you wear so well :) x
ReplyDeleteYes, please!! And do you know what your hair colour is named? LOVE IT!
DeleteHey Corrie, this was a blow dry by my fab hairdresser. I don't usually look this groomed!
DeleteAnon, I'm afraid I don't dye my hair so I guess the colour is Rose Au Natural... sorry! x
I know what your hair colour is called - brown!! HTH.

ReplyDeleteHey I know you don't give much away about relationships but I know you have an ex boyfriend and mine is being a total horrible dick at the moment and going around saying horrible ugly things about me and I just cant stop crying I hate him so much. you seem so together and fine about your whole situation can you tell me how? do you hate him?
ReplyDeleteHey Anon,
DeleteI'm so sorry you're having a difficult time, that sucks.
Break-ups are horrible, no matter how long or short the relationship.
Sadly there's absolutely nothing you can do about your ex saying dreadful things. I imagine you're the one who broke up with him? (That's usually why they do stuff like that. It's hurt pride and they think putting you down will make them feel better.)
I'm afraid you just have to rise above it.
When I left D, I packed my bags, got in the car and never looked back. I left the beautiful flat I'd decorated and so many of my things but my rational was just "you can keep everything, except for me".
I blocked him from Facebook & Twitter (I would have blocked my blog but sadly it's not an option) and cut him out of my life.
He went around to all our friends saying dreadful things about me and lied so dreadfully. I couldn't believe it.
I'd been so dignified about the whole breakup and never told anyone the things that happened... and this was how I was being repaid?
But at some point you just have to sit back and accept it. Sooner or later he'll get bored or move on and forget about you.
I know it's hard but I really do think a dignified silence is your best option.
The truth is that I don't hate D.
The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference and that's how I feel... indifferent.
I haven't seen anything of him since the day I left. I've avoided places he goes, I don't have him on Facebook... he could literally have died and I wouldn't know about it.
I know it sounds harsh, but I just don't ever think about him. My year with him was probably the worst chapter in my life, but I've grown from it and I'm a better person because of it.
If his friends believe the lies he's told them then they're not people I want in my life anyway.
I really think you should take the same tact.
Cut out the poison and move on.
You deserve better, honey.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
xxx
Ps. Karma's only a bitch if you are!
DeleteYour ex will get what he deserves! x
Thankyou rosie I know you're right. thanks. sorry for having to ask you just always seem so together
DeleteRose, I know you and I know D. I also know that you commented on a photo of him today SO guess you know he's not dead after all!
DeleteNo worries Anon 1, always here if you need me. x
DeleteAnon 2, I think you're mistaken.
Yup yup you did on a photo of him on ASOS site.
DeleteI can't see Damian on the asos website, he'd think it was far too 'lower class' to let people know he wore asos.
DeleteAnyway, this is boring now, if you don't have anything helpful to say to Anon 1, please buzz off.
I work with Damian and he stalks Rosie like a fucking TROOPER
DeleteI'm sure Anon's ex does too. Block that boy, Anon! x
DeleteIf I could like slutty brownie fans post. I would!!
DeleteAnd blocking in social network sites is a great idea, well suggested. Been there done that!
Anon 3
I have to agree- cut him out of your life! just been through a break up, and though it didn't end nastily ending all contact was the best thing I did. How can you get over someone if they are constantly looking over you shoulder? With regards to him spreading lies, my mum always used to say to me that if people want to talk about you behind your back then you are obviously worth talking about! Chin up because you are 10x the person he will ever be. Sarah xx
DeleteYou're so wise, like a miniature buddha.
DeleteAnchorman fan?!
DeleteSo much wisdom for one so young.
DeleteOh, Anon. I don't feel very wise.

I feel like an iceberg adrift in a sea of love songs.

DeleteYou're beautiful and endlessly kind Rose, you're going to make a wonderful wife and mother some day. Never doubt yourself.
Oh you're so lovely.
DeleteThankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

wow - reading your comment about your breakup with D. you are so dignified and elegant in every aspect of your life. I wish I was more like you! I did not handle my break up anywhere near as well as you. lots of tears, lots of chocolate, lots of sleepovers with my girlfriends. The only thing that helps is time, of course, but girlfriends are also a huge help. anywho. love any insight to your life, glad you have gotten rid of the poison and i hope the first anon does the same. keep up the wonderful blogging!
DeleteKristen, i was the same, a massive mess! I wish I'd done it as dignified as Rose. Me and my ex both worked together and so have alot of mutual friends he went around and slated me to. I have learnt who my good friends are, they didn't listen to him at all and instead helped to cheer me up! I want to give you both massive hugs XXXXXXXXX
DeleteSome fool was lucky to share a whole year with you and you walk away rememebring it as the worst year of your life? He's a fool!
DeleteFind some one that threats every minute like it's the luckiest of his life because his hand is holding yours!
FYI - I'm available if you need a hand.
Oh thankyou honey, you're so sweet.
DeleteSometimes I wish you weren't all so anonymous though...
anonymous = shy.
Delete= mysterious.
The right guy is out there. You just have to recognize him for who he is and not who you want him to be. Try to understand him and help him understand you. Togetherness is one of the hardest parts of a relationship and probably one that is most overlooked.
Hey rosie is ""D"" a multi miliionaire? It seems kinda stupid of you to leave him. I read an arictle saying hes going to be a millionaire by chistmas. Shouldt you seem if you can get him back before that? You can be the new mrs zukkerburg. To be honest your never going to do better anyway
DeleteThe D I knew was poor as a church mouse and that's how I fell in love with him.
DeleteAfter a few weeks I saw the 'real him' which turned out to be a boy from a very wealthy family.
I have no doubt that Damian will become a billionaire.
However, I can safely say (from experience) that money can't buy happiness.
I'd rather make my own money, and even if I fail... I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and trapped!
Rose.
You dumped a billionaire and your going to spend the rest of your life regretting it stupid girl
Delete*you're.
DeleteWhy didn't you know he was money'd?
DeleteOh, he had holes in his jumper and I was told he was staying with the boy I met him through.
DeleteAnyway, this is all very boring.
He's part of my past and I wish him all the best, but would honestly rather not talk about old love affairs!
Rose, you will succeed beyond your current dreams because you have the determination and wisdom to rise above. It is beyond apparent in your eloquent approaches to issues brought up in this chain of comments and I look up to you for this.
DeleteI hope you are having a wonderful summer full of new summer romances and short lots of Asos shopping at work for your next holiday!
I highly recommend Kas, Turkey as another escape with some girlfriends!

ReplyDeleteYou look STUNNING! Also, I love the photo of all the shoes! So pretty x
ReplyDeleteRose. You write a FANTASTIC blog, and people clearly love it. Those who don't seem to like it or you *cough* anon 2 *cough* must obviously not have anything better to do with their lives.
ReplyDeleteSeriously your blog is great (though your lifestyle does make me incredibly jealous!) and I hope you're genuinely strong enough that these comments don't get to you.

TROLL TROLL TROLLY TROLL, TROLL TROLL TROLLY TROLL, GO AND TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE COWARDLY TRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL xxxxxxxxxxx the one thing I hate more than anything, it's internet trolling, it's so vulgar and undignified... shudder. DeleteHi Rosie, I found your blog through that article about you in The Metro.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite post so far! That dress is fabulous, do you know who the designer was? I know its vintage, but vintage who? x
Hi Anon,
DeleteThat's great news! I heard about the article but never saw it, I should ask them if they'll send me a copy.
Sadly I don't know who the designer was, but Light Green has some faaabbulous gowns and vintage numbers. Their newest haul includes a whole load of retro swimsuits... very bad news for my wallet!
You should defo check them out.

ReplyDeleteHi Rose, I'm a loooooong time reader of your fabulous blog and always get a wave of excitement when I see a new post and this did not disappoint! You have a great attitude towards the anons who leave rude comments, on top of a refreshing attitude towards life in general. It's hard to believe anyone, let alone someone you were with for a year of your life, would spread lies about you but it's nice to see that you don't let them drag you down to their level. Hello! What a fab dress/shoe combo! So, since reading your Anti-diet post two months ago, I have lost a stone! Thanks to the 80/20 rule, and running (which I now love - I wish I could see my old PE teacher's face ha!). I want to treat myself by buying some nice running clothes rather than my old baggy tops, since I'm now more stream-lined, and was wondering if you knew anywhere which sold good running tops which aren't your standard Nike style vests? I'm guessing you run (the running advice in the Anti-diet), and always have fab style, so if you have any recommendations I would be very happy!
ReplyDeleteFantastic post, as usual! Sophie x
Wow Sophie! Congratulations, that's fab news!
DeleteI always walk past this place and think the clothes look quite nice (I tend to work out in old tshirts, I'm not nearly as glam as you, sadly!)
Keep it up, girl! xx
That's just what I was looking for, and there's a sale on! Thank you! Looking forward to your next post already, Sophie x
DeleteHi Rosie, I know this might be off topic, but I think you are very mature and wise and if it is not too personal, please answer my question. Breaking up with someone that's been in your life for a long period of time is really difficult, but how do you know that it is for the best? How do ou know it is time to let go and start a new chapter in your life without that person?
ReplyDeleteOoof.
DeleteThat's a tough one.
To be honest I think it comes down to love at the end of the day. If you're not in love with your partner, you need to let them go. Not just for you but because it's not fair to them either. They deserve to be loved to their bones, and if you don't then you're doing both of you a disservice.
Personally I think a good relationship should be friendship, set on fire.
I want to marry my best friend, but I don't want him to be able to take his hands off me!
I guess I've just gotten to the stage where I'm not willing to settle for anything else, so until I meet him I wont settle down.
I've always liked this quote:
"Unless it's mad, passionate, extraordinary love, it's a waste of your time. There are too many mediocre things in life. Love shouldn't be one of them."
I dated a guy for about 3 years at university, we lived together and had a dog.
He was and IS a lovely, lovely guy.
I was lucky to date him and lucky that he loved me.
But I knew I wasn't going to marry him, I was too young, I wanted more from life, so I left.
I did it as kindly as I could but I think I still broke his heart. I felt so terrible about it, but in the end it was the right thing to do... for both of us.
I cried for weeks after I left, which seems silly seeing as I was the one making the decision. Breakups are hard, but in time you know you did the right thing.
And if you made a mistake?
You can always get back together again, the universe doesn't give up on soulmates.
you really give the best advice!
Delete& a lot of people have said it already but your blog is definitely a favourite of mine :D
"The universe doesn't give up on soulmates"
Deleteamazing :')
Rose, you inspire so many. Been working my way through your blog as study breaks (yay for finals), never commented before but this comment - and your reply - hit home so hard. As young as I am, I've been through some rough stuff with boys and I agree with what you posted above, as hard as it's been to stick to my guns at times. Your thoughtfulness in your responses to reader comments never ceases to astound me, and you can only be described as one of those rare people who are nothing but kind, through-and-through. You inspired me to start my own blog (very recently), and are preserving my courage through a very uncertain time for me (applying for grad school, potentially moving from Canada to the UK, starting real life and pretending to know what I'm doing). Knowing that there are people like you in the world is comforting, even if we don't know eachother personally.
DeleteThanks for sharing your happiness and goodness with us!!

PS. With all this relationship chat, you guys might appreciate this:
ReplyDeleteLOVE
Ohmygosh you look like a modern day bella from beauty and the beast. And I love your friends dress!
ReplyDeleteHi Rose,
ReplyDeleteI'm a long time reader yet I rarely comment but with all this relationship chat tonight I felt compelled to comment, if for no other reason than to add to your amazing words of advice for Anon1, afterall all, us girls gotta stick together! Also I hope you get to read this because I was once that lonely ice berg too but I thawed in time, as will you so have faith (although I imagine you get so many comments that it is difficult to keep up.)
Without getting into too much detail that will likely bore the pants off those who came to look at pretty ball gowns, I was in an incredibly destructeive relationship in my late teens; it was every kind of abusive you can think of and very nearly broke me had it not been for my fantastic loved ones who managed to clear my head enough for me to see sense and get out. However, the trouble is that once you've been scarred so deeply by something like that it's hard to know your worth so I settled, soon after, for a pretty crummy relationship, on no level in comparison to the first but not what love should be (which in my opinion is exactly what you described above). Thankfully that too is now over but it can leave you cynical and unwelcoming, i know it did me.
The solution I think for me was to forgive myself for allowing myself to be treated in a way that was far below I deserved, and here I don't even mean as extreme as it got but simply for settling for anything less than "this relationship makes us both extremely happy and there is no one else I would rather share my life with" because that's what we all deserve. I guess it's that old cliche of 'you have to love yourself first' and anyone that is hurtful and tries to detract from that love or tries to alter the way others think of you, ie rumour spreading, is only showing their true colours, not yours and those worthy of your time won't believe it so brush it off with the pity it deserves.
Sometimes, like you, I'm doubtful if I want to fall in love again because when it's bad, it's BAD but isn't that true of everything that can be truly wonderful? You kind of just have to believe that in time everything will fall into place and until then being single can be a shed load of fun :) this becomes clear when I look at how far I've come; I came to university (better a couple of years late than never), I have a whole friendship group worth of soul mates, I'm so much more sure of and comfortable with who I am and hopefully when I graduate next year I'm going to move to the big smoke to live a life as full of fabulous experiences as yours!
Also, every failed relationship is just experience that will make the right one stronger; experience of what you want, what you don't, what you're willing to give, what you're not and so on. So when the time comes that all the frogs are done and we're left with our princes we will be able to see it and make the best of it. And Rose you are wise, beautiful, funny, intelligent and you can make a mean chilli, if you feel you're not going to get snapped up there's no help for the rest of us so chin up :) ...also if you want to ask questions of us, like we do you, then ask, despite the odd troll (get a life by the way!) we're all like minded, kind people who would like to repay you for your beautiful blog.
I fear I've side tracked too much and bored the life out of everyone reading so one last parting message: my mum says everyone's soul mate is on their way but sometimes they get held up, perhaps like mine, yours is just stuck in traffic! ;)

Hi hun, don't panic!
DeleteSounds like you need a promoter. Contact @ShaKingsList on Twitter, he'll sort you out.
Have fun! xx
I hope all the trollface anons realise that for every one of them there are 1000 (probably literally) other people who think you are awesome and enjoy your blog. Ignore the ugly, miserable b*****ds. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh my gawd! I can't believe I said this dress was TopShop - I'm sorry Rose - I didn't see the bottom. IT IS STUNNING I love I love I love. And I like the colour clash of the shoes too, stops it being too Beauty-And-The-Beast (although chanelling Belle is never a good thing, Gaston was hot!)
ReplyDeletex
Wow - Some of these comments are so off topic!
ReplyDeleteSo let's get back to the dresses. Who was going commando?
weird but have to say I thought the same thing. Not sure Rose will know what "going commando" means.

ReplyDeleteI've been reading your amazing blog for a little while now but never posted a reply, feel this is the one to start.
You look fantastic, I love your outfit from top to bottom, some people just have no taste (or are sheep and follow the trends to feel accepted)
I really look forward to reading your adventures and love your out look on life (and relationships)

All this anti-diet chat going on too... It's really refreshing to be able to lose weight with some perspective and not feel like I'm starving all the time, so thanks! I've only lost 4 lb so far but it's only been about a week, so thanks!

If you happen to be in NYC soon, they have an amazing exhibit called "Impossible Conversations" featuring the work of Prada and Schiaparelli in an amazing contrast comparison exhibit. Just amazing to see the pieces and the different takes on fashion.
ReplyDeleteOMG u're such a doll!!!:) Beautiful yellow dress and gorgeous shoes! Modern princess!;)
ReplyDeleteLovely blog and style, it's my first time here!
Happy Friday!! xoxo

I'm totally late to the party on this post (I've been away for a few days and thought I'd better catch up on the Londoner gossip) but I just had to comment on this seeing as I literally JUST wrote about the same colour scheme myself (and, I believe, the very same amazing Zara shoes- http://whereinthewelly.wordpress.com/category/fashion-and-beauty/). I was worried I might be mad and that the two were only a good match in my own warped mind, but now I know that you approve I feel so much better. Looks as if not everyone agrees, but you'll never please everyone I guess. I think you looked fantastic, and reading your posts makes me miss London SO much. Love Emma x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos as always. I just thought I'd say I only discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago and I'm crazy checking every day for new stuff and old I may have missed! Love the fashion, food and pics :)
ReplyDeleteThe pair of you look amazing in these photos!

I came down to comment on how much you reminded me of Belle from Beauty & the Beast but looks like alot of people cut me to the chase. How does your hair look so bouncy in every picture??! I'm so tempted to go down to that little hairdressers you recommended. You must do a post on your collection of heels! I swear I need to steal all of your wardrobe!!

thank you so much for posting this! I'm coming to London (from Canada) in August and the thought of visiting the V&A to see all of these beautiful ball gowns makes me feel so giddy!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about your dress at first but you look so stunning in it! And seeing the back and how it moves when you twirl won me over! You wear it so well!
Your shoes are ridiculous and your friend is wearing a tablecloth. This is fashion?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your blog! Your dress and shoes are fabulous. x

I am absolutely in love with your dress - did you hire it or do they have them for sale? I have a Cambridge May Ball coming up an cannot imagine anything more beautiful to wear!
ReplyDeleteI love the V&A, I think I could probably walk around around it with my eyes closed I'm there so much! My favourite dress from that exhibition is definitely Catherine Walkers Elvis Dress, she was so talented. x
