This weekend, I headed home to Somerset for some family time.
The weather was cold, crisp & clear, the house was full to bursting with people I adore and I spent 80% of the weekend outside, and the rest of it snuggled by the fire.
Pure bliss.
Mummy's new baby alpaca, Mary.
She is sooo incredibly soft, I just want to shmoosh her all day long (Mary the alpaca.. not my mother)!
When cooking breakfast for an army of hungry friends & relatives, I recommend this little trick.
Take a muffin tray and pop a little knob of butter in each hollow, crack an egg on top, sprinkle with salt & pepper, and bung the whole lot in the oven.
When you pull them out, you'll have beautifully cooked eggs, ready for the masses.
My puppy dowg, Custard!
Honestly, is there anything better than a rugged man holding a baby... in a teddy bear costume?!
Spoilt little muffin!
On Sunday we went apple picking on the Longleat estate.
For our troubles we were rewarded with hand pressed cider, local sausages & every type of apple pudding you can fathom!
My
Delicious niece #2, Niamh.
I bought their squirrel hats from Zara Kids.
I may have also bought myself one...
It was by far the best weekend I've had in a long time & I cried all the way home!
Will I ever grow out of missing my mum?
.

Your photos really, really make me miss country life!
ReplyDeleteRose, these photos are amazing! It looks like you had a fantastic weekend and Custard is sooo cute, the second to last photo of him is priceless.

This post is amazing! Looks like you had the best time ever! That breakfast looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you had hand pressed cider - that's so cool! I went to a cider festival at the weekend but it wasn't a nice family affair like this!
I'm not surprised you cried all the way home - I love spending time with my family and it's horrible when you have to say goodbye (and mine only live 20 minutes away!)

I had no idea you were from Somerset! It seems all the best people come from that neck of the woods - myself included ;) Such beautiful photographs. They remind me of apple picking in my Grandad's orchard when I was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and some great photos... made me miss the countryside horribly!
ReplyDeleteSomehow Swiss countryside isn't quite the same as the wilds of West Sussex.
Custard is a little cutie pie x

P.S. Beautiful blog.
I'm a newbie reader who is steadily working my way through your blog posts and i have to say you are just my favouritist! You're such a sweet and beautiful lady, both inside and out. Your posts are a joy to read!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean, every time I leave my Mother's in Bath to come back here I never fail to get teary! I see her relatively frequently but there's always that moment where I try and convince myself I needn't go back and could just stay there! It's worse with my Dad as he lives in Spain up in the mountains and so I see him a lot less, Skype is great but it's not the same as the real thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for their posts, like Amy who's posted above me, I am also a newbie and find your blogs incredibly entertaining. We are actually about to pop to waitrose to get the ingredients for Slutty Brownies and then head out for a walk somewhere in the country (possibly a beach, nothing better when it's cold but a beautiful day!), and munch on the brownies and some hot chocolate. Please keep up the blog, I'm thoroughly enjoying it and can't wait to start making my way through your other recipes! xox
